Co-op Gilfach Goch
Another new Co-op Food store emerges out of the ground. Co-op’s expansion plan for their ‘Food’ stores continues and ASR Projects were contracted to build one of their latest stores in Gilfach Goch, in the heart of the Rhondda Valley. The site provides a much-needed convenience store for the local community. The building is simple, smart and modern – small but perfectly formed.
Exposed and robust
ASR Projects team and our Site Manager were on site for the full duration of the project from start to hand-over ready for the Co-op team to carry out their brand fit-out. Working closely with Vale Consulting on engineering matters and CFW Architects, the project build commenced in August 2019 and was completed in January 2020. And the project was signed off in the record time of ten minutes – one very satisfied client.
The Project commenced with the clearing of the ground and laying foundations which involved piling and a deep re-enforced raft foundation. The envelope was a traditional block wall masonry construction and coloured rendered system finish to the exterior. We installed glass curtain walling and automatic doors. The roof was constructed using a large span timber trussed roof and tiled. The Ground-works and site infrastructure involved creating a new large car park, lighting, signage, drainage systems and a Section 278 new road entrance roadway. We understood the exposed nature of the site situated high on an open part of a hill and the harsh weather the building would be battered by. It was important to ensure the building was built to withstand all the weather had to throw at it – robust, weather tight, and stand the test of time.
Jonathan Phillips | Director, Provinca Developments |ASR Projects completed construction of our new Co-op Convenience Store at Hendreforgan in February 2020. This was delivered both on time and on budget despite the British weather causing plenty of problems!
David Morgan and the ASR Projects team were very easy to work with during the whole process and I look forward to working together again on the next project.
The detail – practical and polished
A very simple but perfectly formed building. Simple, smart and fit for purpose. Our brief was to create the shell with all the power and mechanics ready for hand-over to the Co-op fit-out team to install all the elements that turn the space form a shell to a shop. The interior shell although raw, exposes the build details from the expansive power floated polished concrete floor to the wrap around block-work walls to the ply partition walls – practical and polished.
