The Cottage
From derelict to design statement, The Cottage is both a rebuild and new-build project. The Cottage once again stands proud in it’s grounds echoing the past whilst embracing the future. Working closely with the client and the architect ASR Projects created a private dwelling where old literally meets new and where the clients dreams of their forever home have become reality.
A modern home built for the future
The brief was to construct a new contemporary private dwelling, demolish part of the existing cottage maintaining key parts of the old structure and transform the old cottage into The Cottage, a modern home built for the future. ASR Projects were responsible for all aspects of work from Quantity Surveying to Project managing, procurement to quality control, demolition to complete ground-works and landscaping, restorative works to new build, interior and exterior finishes, M&E to ground-source heat system and plant room installation, and importantly a number of conservation aspects from building a new bat house to the installation of a sedum roof.
Mr & Mrs King | Property Owners | St FagansIt had always been my ambition to build my own home, so when I finally obtained a Planning Permission in March 2016 I began my search for a Quantity Surveyor to proceed to the next step of Bill of Quantities and Project Costs. I appointed ASR Projects who started on site in October 2016 with the building being completed in 12 months, as agreed.
During my dealings with David Morgan, first of all as my QS and then as the Main Contractor, I have found him to be very professional, helpful and committed to the project. In addition his employees, management and building workforce have also been very committed and helpful.
As with any new building projects, a certain amount of snagging takes place, and once again David has responded well in sorting out any problems and has never tried to walk away from his responsibilities, which is very much appreciated.
I would have no hesitation in recommending ASR Projects to anyone who needs a reliable Building Contractor, and would certainly use them again if the need arose.
The detail – crafted & considered
This was one project that required an understanding of and sensitivity towards the design details. From bespoke detailing in the external and internal joinery to the replication by hand of old stone work to the rebuilt main cottage walls to hidden details with concealed internal drainpipes in the contemporary build elements to the contrasting contemporary feature of fixed and sliding glazing – details hand-crafted and considered throughout the build.
