The Buffers
From the end of the railway line to the beginning of a home for the future, The Buffers is a new-build project built on the site of the old bridge and railway line near the top of Cowbridge High Street. The owner’s vision was to create a home in the grounds of their original home, the old schoolhouse that would be flooded with South facing light for them to enjoy all year round. Working closely with the client and architect ASR Projects constructed a bespoke home with light and warmth, sensitivity for the future and a real sense of wellbeing.
A light, spacious modern home
The brief was to construct a new modern private dwelling on a challenging historical site to give our clients a house that was crafted, engineered and wired with state-of-the-art technology. ASR Projects were responsible for all aspects of work from Quantity Surveying to Project managing, procurement to quality control, ground-works and landscaping, crafted joinery to new build elements, interior and exterior finishes, M&E to state-of-the-art technology installation, turning a civil engineers and his wife’s dream into a into a home for life.
Barbara and Harry Jones | Property Owners | Cowbridge Road, CardiffBuilding a new house for the first time can be quite daunting but David and his team at ASR Projects made sure that we anticipated most problems and managed those that were unavoidable, from planners to neighbours to cost control.
David was initially appointed, on recommendation of a professional colleague, to act as QS for the management of traditional construction contract with a previously chosen contractor. However, a change of circumstances for the contractor meant that we moved to a more ‘self build’ model. Working with ASR projects we ended up with a beautiful new home, made friends with most who helped build it – makes for a much happier experience. We really could not have wished for more.
The detail – modern and meticulous
Sometimes we go those few steps further to craft a detail or a finish that makes all the difference to the project outcome and importantly to the client. The Buffers owners wanted to celebrate natural timber as a main feature throughout the design. We handcrafted as we built creating sympathetic details showing off the timber structure at its best. Our client’s love of music was a focal point in the design and build, concealing every hi-fi cable possible into walls with remote activation – details both celebrated and hidden.
